The coming and going of a day seems to fascinate me. In my previous post, I discussed how certain photos I have taken seemed capture a transition of a day.  This blog will focus a great deal on the transition of sunlight.  I drove up to Gloucester, Ma. and Manchester, Ma. to capture the sunset last night. More specifically, I wanted to capture the beatuy that light brings to certain forms of nature. During mid-day, sunlight seems to capture everything in an equal form. As afternoon and evening rolls around and sunlight begins to fade, it creates shadows on earth’s objects. Shadows seem to emphasise the parts of nature eyes may  miss when viewing it in broad daylight.

Photos Freeze Time

There are several things I have always loved… music, nature, and photographs. As far as music goes, I love exploring new artists. One band I really got into last semester is called City and Colour. Dallas Green, the main singer in the band has a true talent for writing and crafting beautiful music. Lyrics get to me… they always have. To truly appreciate an artist, you have to listen to what he or she is saying. If you don’t, you miss out on one of the most amazing parts of what an artist does. As far as my love affair with nature goes, I think I fell in love with the wonders of nature when I was really young. I have a summer house in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. I have spent the last 21 summers of my life, usually a few weeks at a time in Whitefield. Whitefield is a little town… and our house lays right outside it up on a hill with three-hundred acres behind us of untouched land. Days have consisted of hiking, fishing, cliff jumping and golfing. Nights filled with laughter between friends and family, and of course the annual star gazing. When I think of nature, I think of one word… beauty. Beauty in nature can be found in the simplest of forms. Snow fall, spring nights cast by a warm breeze and stars, mountains, or evening thunderstorm after a hot humid summer day. I think this is where my love affair with photographs began. One thing that is really neat about a photo is the ability it has to freeze time. The moments you cannot get back, you can look to in a photo. I love taking photos of transitions. Specifically photos that captures natures journey from day to night. I went to Newburryport at the beginning of November. I captured some really neat images throughout the day, and looking back at them, I noticed that the photos seem to transition the hours that past while I was there.

Where Did the Time Go?

As a senior at Endicott College, I am just three months away from graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications– concentrating in Journalism. I cannot believe how fast these four years have gone by. Lately, I have been overwhelmed with many different emotions. I am excited, happy, scared and nervous. I am ready to graduate, but with the economy the way it is right now, I am worried I won’t find a job. I guess I will just have to take one day at a time. I recently completed a semester-long internship with Global Post located in Boston, Ma. Global Post is the first ever web-only international news organization. President Phillip Balboni and Vice President Charles Sennott launched this company January 12, 2009 with around 70 foreign correspondents who are living in 53 countries around the world. It was an amazing experience to be part of a start up. With a few months of working fourty hours a week and taking two classes, come winter break it was time for a little vacation.

Before coming back for my last semester, I took a little trip to Colorado with my friend Chelsea. Chelsea works for ESPN during the summer and winter xgames. Not bad huh? We booked our trip back in September and it seemed the day we were scheduled to leave would never come. January 12th we drove down to Logan Airport in Boston and boarded our first flight. After a long day of travel, we arrived safely in Denver with our ski bag and luggage. I had never been to Colorado. I grew up skiing and have taken several trips so the excitement of it all was overwhelming. The mountains and landscapes of this state are absolutely breathtaking. Our 15 day excursion was filled with skiing, dinning, hot tubing and of course the 2009 xgames. I met some of the skiers and snowboarders. I also got to go to the top of the pipe and stand with them because one of my friends who goes to school in Colorado is a skier. It was an amazing, relaxing trip… much needed for the tough semester I have ahead of me! Here are some neat pictures from my adventure.
